Singhi Park Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee is proud to announce the 68th year celebration of Durga Puja for the year 2009 with lot of pomp and vivacity during the month of September 2009. An insight into this year’s Pandal, Idol & Illumination is given below :-

PANDAL

This year's pandal will be an replica of the famous BADRINATH TEMPLE of Uttaranchal. Guarded on either side by the two mountains Nar and Narayan, the Neelkanth Peak provides a splendid backdrop to Badrinath, one of the ‘Four Dhams’. One of the most celebrated pilgrim spots in the country, it plays host to the famous Badrinath Temple. Legend has it that Lord Vishnu came to the area, called ‘Badri Van’, or the berry garden, to meditate after Narad rebuked the Lord for being immersed in worldly pleasures.
Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple of Badrinath, is built in the form of a cone with a small cupola of a gilt bull and spire. The temple opens every year in the month of April-May and closes for winters in the third week of November. But one does not need to travel such a distance for visiting the temple this year, as Singhi Park brings to you the famous BADRINATH Temple to your doorstep – in Kolkata. Even though legend dates the temple back to the Vedic age, Guru Adi Shankaracharya has established the present temple. The temple has three parts - Garbha Griha (The Sanctum Sanctorum), Darshan Mandap (for pujas) and Sabha Mandap (for devotees to assemble). Our endeavor will be to replicate the latter two sections of the temple in decent detail.
The Pandal is being constructed by M/S. DIPTI DECORATORS of Contai, Midnapur. The intricate design work is the brain child of famous designer & artist Sri Sutanu Maity of Contai. As always, these art works in plywood base will be one of the main attractions of this year's Puja. The choice of the materials has been made keeping in view the recyclable property of each. Singhi Park resolves to fight for Climate Change and we believe that these gestures, though very small in the larger picture, will educate people and bring about a positive mandate against use of artificial carbon emitting pollutants that puts in risk the very existence of human race.

IDOL

Like previous years, award winning artist Sri Mohon Banshi Rudra Pal will be giving his blessed touch to our idol.
In Kolkata, the icon-artisans mostly dwell in Kumartuli, in North Kolkata, though many of them have now moved to the Ultadanga area or in other parts of the metropolis. The more popular among them are Mohan Banshi Rudra Pal and his younger son Pradip Rudra Pal, who are still reigning figures of Kumartuli and despite the threats from the so called ‘theme artists’, they are persuaded by the committee, who admire the old school, to stick to the traditional "Matri Murti" . It has been our tradition to worship "Matri Murti" only, being one of the most authentic Puja organizers of Kolkata. In line with our tradition, we shall not make any experiment with the art form of Maa Durga, as is being done by some theme based prize winning Puja organizers.

The idols take months of tough labour to take the final shape from hay and clay and the preparation starts right from April or earlier. The artists usually have to hire assistants who mostly come from Krishnanagar and Shantipur of Nadia. The gorgeous & intricate design work adorning the idol this year collectively promises to be a visual b

LIGHTING

Child amusement is the central subject of this year's lighting, which will be done by world renowned lighting expert Mr. Sridhar Das of Chandannagore. Singhi Park felt it relevent to project the idea of 'CHILDREN'S RHYMES' which will add extra endeavour to amuse the tiny tots who are the real pandal hoppers. The main attraction will be the pictorial display of selected Nursery Rhymes with mechanical movement and 3D effect. As always, this year too, we put our renewed endaevour to revive the lost fame of Chandannagore Electrical Works which had been a major small scale industry of West Bengal in recent past.

As described earlier, Singhi Park Durga Puja Committee has resolved to address the issue of global warming in a serious way. The preponderance of future growth in global greenhouse gas emissions will take place in developing countries such as China and India, which is why stopping global warming must be a truly global effort. As a precaution against global warming caused from gas bulbs, this year we are using L.E.D. lamps in a bigger way in our illumination project. A LED ( Light Emitting Diode ) lamp ( also called LED bar or Illuminator ) is a type of solid state lighting ( SSL ) that uses light-emitting diodes ( LEDs ) as the source of light. Unlike fluorescent lamps , LEDs contain no hazardous mercury or halogen gases, thus arresting greenhouse gas emissions.
