Singhi Park Sarbojanin Durga Puja is proud to announce the 68th year celebration of Durga Puja. The history of illustrious Singhi Park Durga puja dates back to 1941. The pioneer of this Puja in its 1st year of celebration was Late Birendranath Mustafi (16/2N, Dover Lane) who was ably assisted by late Lalit Mohon Mitra, Late Nolini Mohon Shastri, Late Soumendu Nath Sinha, Late Rajanath Banerjee, Late Naresh Chandra Bose an eminent Professor of B.E. College, Shibpur and also by the other eminent personalities of the locality. During this long journey of 68 years, the puja has been established as one of the most prestigious pujas of Kolkata.

In its early years, the puja was funded by the organizers themselves and no subscription was collected from the localities. At that time, when the puja was started in a place called Singhi Park this area was not at all developed. The entire place was covered with small ponds, shrubs, bushes etc. Even electrification had not been complete until another 10-15 years. As a result the place would be quite deserted after sunset. During 1955-56 the area was cleaned and Singhi Park Durga Puja could manage to have a very huge structure along with a stage where various cultural programs were held daily, during the puja. Various competitions on Bijaya Dashami, food and game stalls etc. contributed to the look of a fair. Now, the environment has radically changed. The open grounds have been replaced by sky scrappers. Hence, for a number of years the "pandal" is being made on the streets. But this hasn't affected the immense repute and cultural heritage of the puja. In fact, it has been increasing over the years. Quite in contrast to the current trend of "theme" pujas, Singhi Park has still continued the traditional way of worshipping the "Mother Goddess." However a contemporary touch is always visible in the "pandal" itself. Over the years, the "pandal" creation has been very innovative and as always accompanied by lighting from Chandannagar.

Singhi Park has also lived upto its repute in other ways as well. From its inception Singhi Park has developed a concept of community "Bhog" this concept facilitates and creates a platform to harness harmony and bonding amongst the residents of this area. The Committee, sincerely hopes, that the fame and repute of this prestigious puja will continue for ever.

This year the pandal will be a replica of the famous Badrinath Temple of Uttaranchal. The intricate design work is the brain child of the famous designer and artist Sri Sutanu Maity of Contai. The art work will be one of the main attractions of this year's puja.

The Idol will have the blessed touch of the award winning artist Sri Mohon Banshi Rudra Pal. The lighting will come from Sridhar Das of Chandannagar.

With this setup, this puja will surely attract a huge crowd during the puja days.

Though Singhi Park Puja has a very glittering atmosphere, "Matri Aradhana" in the traditional way and maintaining a communal harmony is the true essence of our sincere efforts.

With this I would like to wish all a very Happy Puja.
